A History of Polish Musicians in America and Their Presence in Philadelphia (In English)

The speaker will present an early history of music in America, the emergence of Poles and the influence of about 50 musicians in classical music, beginning in Philadelphia.

Paul Krzywicki was principal tubist with the Philadelphia Orchestra for 33 years. He performed in more than 4,000 concerts around the world, premiered two new works for tuba with the Philadelphia Orchestra, recorded at least 60 albums and has been invited to teach throughout the world. 

Krzywicki's interest in the history of the Polish musician in America inspired his book, From Paderewski to Penderecki. In 2019, he was a guest lecturer at the Fryderyk Chopin University in Warsaw, presenting Polish Musicians in the History of Classical Music in Philadelphia, was interviewed for a special documentary on Józef Hofmann and the Curtis Institute of Music and met with students of the Conservatory together with members of the Warsaw Philharmonic.

He is also the author of A History of the Tubist in Philadelphia. Krzywicki is in his 52nd year of teaching at the Curtis Institute of Music.
